Sheet Music Shopping

In Tokyo and Online

Browsing local music shops like Academia Music in Tokyo can be a lot of fun. Extensive collections of sheet music and books can also be found at Yamaha Ginza or various Yamano Music branches around Japan. If you are local, please support local music shops near you.

Sometimes buying music online can be the most convenient for busy parents of music students, or those of us working inside or outside of the home. I have compiled some easy shopping lists on Amazon Japan as well as Sheet Music Plus, an American based website with reasonable shipping prices to Japan. Listed there are some of my most recommended music texts I ask my students to purchase as well as some essential accessories I talk about in my article here!

And of course, there is the FREE sheet music resource International Music Score Library Project or IMSLP . Everything can be found from symphony scores and parts to violin etudes and more. There are over 600,000 scores for all instruments (according to Wikipedia), so please take a look! You might even discover your new favorite composer!

For American based readers here are some other great online shopping resources that either do not ship to Japan or have prohibitively high shipping rates to Japan.
